Another one lost

For years I have been going to a local shop in San Diego named Group5 Motorsport. Two guys have tried to keep my builds on track since I was in high school. Troy and Albert would always greet and treat me as if I was spending thousands of dollars at the shop even when I was only there to pick up something small. A few years later my customer based relationship changed growing into a business to business relationship. At that time I'd get calls from Albert requesting wheels, I'd then personally deliver them to the shop and spend a few moments chatting with Albert and Troy about car crap. Albert had a say in my "AutoLife" for over 10 years always steering me away from cheap bootleg parts (I still found a way to not listen sometimes...fail).
I was recently watching television after work and saw a story about a fatal hit and run. At the time they did not say the victims name, but just by the pic I knew it was Albert. Unfortunately I could only catch the last 10 seconds of the story. I searched the web briefly but couldn't find any info. A few days later more of the story was revealed and it turned out to really be Albert that was the victim. This whole situation is truly a bummer, my prayers to out to Albert's family and all the people that were lucky enough to know him.

The vehicle that hit him... I can't believe she kept driving. Just looking at this image makes me feel sick to my stomach.

"Dude, you'll have to wait until after SEMA"

Okay, so now that you are focused I'm going to go ahead and just put this out there. Before I go off an my rant I'll just say that this year will be my first chance to actually attend SEMA, as previous years I missed all the fun for various reasons, couldn't shut down the shop, had too many orders to fill (at the shop), whatever... the point is I could never go. This year I'm planning to pop in, and pop out in one day, I know I won't see everything... but whatever, at least I can day I've gone, HA!

Anyway, let's get to the point. I have no negative feelings about SEMA, so don't trip. However, why is it that it seems like everybody in the industry stops working 2 weeks prior to the event? "Dude, you'll have to wait until after SEMA", is what I've heard from numerous folks. I have no questions for those that are preparing a booth, or taking a car, however for the people that are literally just going to hang out, socialize, party and look at all the pretty new parts, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU BE SWAMPED, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SHOW UP?! I have had many of conversations with a man I call "The Chief" (can't use his real name) who clued me in to the notion that if you aren't SWAMPED prior to SEMA you must not be important and if you are important it is key to post all over facebook, twitter, forums etc about how SWAMPED YOU ARE, which solidifies your cool guy status! If you are so swamped why do you have time to post about how swamped you are, in that time you could have put my order through, did what I asked you to do, or answered the question I hit you up about... I'm just say'n!

I'll be there, with my camera burning tapes and I didn't have to stop all projects to gather tapes and charge batteries... Keep the party going.

Crawl before you walk.

Over the years I've had a lot of conversations with enthusiasts that I barely know, often times they will tell me about a build they are working on. It's easy to name off all the "rare" goodies being put on the car, but when it comes time to go fast I commonly catch myself going into a daze, as the conversation begins to sound more and more like a thread from a forum simply being regurgitated. We are not supposed to all be engine guru's, if you don't know what is going on inside of one here is another chance to learn.
Months ago Skunk2 promised to reveal some "speed secrets". Keeping their word this video has just been released for ALL enthusiasts to take a peek at. Word on the street is that there will be plenty more of these, if you have a request be sure to leave a comment on the Skunk2 website under the video.
